HIV positive people 'deserve more life insurance'

Life insurance companies should give more cover to people who are HIV positive, it has been suggested.
A spokesman for the National Aids Trust said that someone diagnosed with HIV now can have a normal life expectancy.
The representative was commenting on an announcement by financial services provider Prudential that the group has created an insurance policy which will offer people with HIV up to £250,000 of life cover for up to ten years.
He continued: "We are delighted that Prudent has recognised that fact and we hope that other financial services will follow through and make sure that there is affordable leverage for people with HIV."
The spokesman went on to say people living with the condition face discrimination and access to affordable financial products such as life insurance remains a problem.
According to aids charity Avert around 540 HIV-infected persons died in 2007, compared to 1,726 in 1995, when antiretroviral treatment for HIV/AIDS was not available.
