Life insurance: Cost of dying has increased to £7,248

Brits should consider investing in life insurance as the cost of dying has increased, according to research by Sun Life Direct.

Its report revealed that on average the cost of someone passing away in the UK is now £7,248, but 25 per cent of people have not made any end of life plans.

On top of this, the survey highlighted that over two-fifths of Brits expect family and friends to organise and fund their funeral.

Simon Cox, head of life planning for Sun Life Direct, said: "Steps need to be taken to avert the sort of distress and concern experienced by the nearly one in five (100,000 people) who struggle with funeral costs."

Meanwhile, Sainsbury's Finance recently revealed that 53 per cent of parents who financially support their adult children do not have life insurance.

Helen Williams, head of the supermarket's life insurance section, noted that this type of protection can offer families extra peace of mind, if the worst should ever happen.
