Credit options are available to consumers

There are a number of options for deals securing credit at the moment and consumers worried about their finances due to the credit crunch could consider these, an expert has said.

People with debts on credit cards have a number of options available to them, including considering taking out different forms of borrowing, such as personal loans.

"Whether you're in the credit crunch or not, just have a sensible approach to your finances," said Samantha Owens, head of personal finance at Moneyfacts.

"Options are available at the moment and you really should be taking advantage of them now," she added.

However, interest rates on cheap personal loans may be increasing at the moment, so the availability of such finance may be decreasing, she asserted.

A recent report from Nationwide suggested that consumer confidence levels were at their lowest since records began. The confidence index had fallen to 77 in March this year, down from 88 at the same time last year.
