As people across the UK are looking at tightening their financial belts, new research has found that homeowners are adopting a "do it yourself" approach to moving house.
In a survey of more than 1,000 people who moving house, Lloyds TSB discovered that over half planned to undertake the removal process themselves in order to save some cash.
A further ten per cent said they intended to avoid estate agent fees by selling their properties privately.
Alison Burns from Lloyds TSB said that in view of the current economic climate, it was unsurprising that people were keen to compare money saving deals.
She stated: "Shopping around for good deals and opportunities to earn rewards on your spend is always a good idea."
However, Ms Burns added that cutting corners was not advisable, especially where legal fees and surveys were concerned as this "could end up costing you more in the long run".
Meanwhile, the Council of Mortgage Lenders reported that the percentage of fixed-rate loan agreements increased during April highlighting the fact that borrowers are looking for security when it comes to mortgage repayments.
