MBNA customers will be issued with contactless credit cards that are EMV-enabled (American Express, MasterCard and Visa), and American Express-branded in the UK.
The new credit cards will be used for all three networks and will not require customers to use a PIN number when making a transaction.
Furthermore, MBNA will roll out the technology for all its users by the end of 2012.
Ian O'Doherty, Europe card executive for the Bank of America, which operates the MBNA brand in the UK, said: "We are delighted to offer a world first in providing EMV-enabled contactless credit cards across the three major payment networks. It is a sign of our global commitment to innovation and to delivering for our customers."
Recently, Credit Industry Fraud Avoidance System (CIFAS) revealed that in the first quarter of 2011, there was an overall decrease in fraudulent activity of nearly 7.5 per cent and that identity fraud was down 13 per cent.
