Availability of buy-to-let mortgages increases 104% since 2008

The number of buy-to-let mortgages available in the UK has grown by 104 per cent in the last three years, according to figures from Defaqto.
Data extracted from the Defaqto Matrix revealed that the number of these products in Britain currently stands at 483 – compared to 237 in October 2008.
On top of this, in the last three years there has been a marked growth in the number of buy-to-let mortgages available through intermediaries, increasing from 70 per cent to 86 per cent.
"This shows that, although the buy-to-let sector has contracted in terms of lending levels in recent years, the market is certainly becoming more buoyant with buy-to-let regarded by many as a potential growth area," David Black, insight analyst for banking, said.
Mortgages for Business recently stated that the buy-to-let market remains a tempting proposition for many potential landlords in the UK, but they should remain cautious.
