The UK's buy-to-let investors are becoming more active, according to one sector expert who says that the private rented sector is growing more than was predicted two or three years ago.

Malcolm Harrison, a property industry expert, said that investors are becoming more active for a "whole variety of reasons", though growth is the main one.

His comments follow the publication of a report by from LSL Property Services, which showed that landlords' confidence in buy-to-let has fallen slightly in the last three months, though still stands at 42 per cent.

Mr Harrison explained that an investment landlord is likely to look at the long-term, as this is the best indication of whether a purchase is likely to reap dividends.

He added: "You have to take a five or ten year view. In another five or ten years, everything points to the number of tenants continuing to increase. The nub of what makes investment in rental property interesting is, is there a market out there?"
