Brits now planning for their pensions and retirement

Brits are thinking more about their retirement plans and pensions in 2011, according to research from Aviva.

The company noted that since the financial crisis hit five years ago more people have started to seriously think about their twilight years and how they will fund them.

Its report revealed that 61 per cent of Brits are more likely to seek advice regarding a pension than they were pre-2006.

Clive Bolton, retirement director at Aviva, said: "The financial crisis has focused clients' minds on their pension savings; increasing awareness of the need to provide for themselves in retirement and the need to protect what they already have."

Recently, moneymagpie.com revealed that although many young people want to save for a pension lots of them are struggling to do so.

Jasmine Birtles, founder of the site, noted that if Brits are offered a pension scheme by their employer it is advisable to start paying into it.
