Event to look a pension investment future

A new conference will look at the challenges facing the pension investment industry.
Nearly 1,000 experts, who manage the investments of more than 15 million people, will attend the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) event in Edinburgh.
The conference will follow one of the toughest years on record for the pension investment industry, which has seen dramatic rises in deficits, increased funding pressures and demands for more responsibility.
Joanne Segars, NAPF chief executive, commented: "The worse recession in 90 years has hit pension funds with full force. It's been a turbulent 12 months for pension schemes and the next year looks to be equally stormy."
She added that the event will provide fund managers with the knowledge they need to make sensible investment decisions in the coming year.
Mark Brooks, spokesman for the NAPF, recently said that people are too reliant on the state pension and called for more to be done to increase the number saving in a workplace fund.
