Older women are struggling to find employment which can have a significant impact on their pensions, according to Savvywoman.co.uk.

The website noted that many women would gladly work for another few years but they cannot find a job.

Sarah Pennells, editor of Savvywoman.co.uk, said: "The government’s own figures show that women in their 50s have a pension pot that is a fraction of the level of men's, so it must realise how hard thousands of women will find the rise in the state pension age to 66."

She added that many mums have also noted that they cannot get a full-time position at work because they have to look after children and many act as carers for elderly relatives.

Recently, research from the Pensions Policy Institute revealed that the government's green paper on pension reforms will save parliament money but overall Brits who retire in the future will be worse off because of the changes.
