Savers 'not sure pensions are enough'

The majority of Britons are not sure their pension will provide them with enough income in their retirement, a new poll shows.

Research commissioned by GE Money and carried out by YouGov found that just 27 per cent are confident their pensions will be adequate when the finish working.

It was also discovered women are most likely to be concerned that pensions are not adequate, with 82 per cent worrying about this compared to 65 per cent of men.

Furthermore, those aged over 65 are the most confident that the pensions will be able to fund their retirement with 60 per cent saying their provision is adequate.

Martyn Beauchamp, chief marketing officer at GE Money, said: "Retirement is a key life stage that requires early financial planning.

"Good financial management and being able to plan and save for the future is an important part of maintaining the family finances."

Findings from Scottish Widows earlier week suggested 49 per cent of people in the UK are not saving enough for their retirement.
