Women 'not receiving retirement advice'

Most women are not seeking guidance over their retirement planning, it has been found.

According to research from Defaqto, only 22 per cent of women have sought advice on how to financially prepare for their golden years, while just 21 per cent have started saving.

The survey also showed that 78 per cent of women expect to rely on the state pension in their retirement and 22 per cent will fall back on their spouse's retirement savings.

In addition, only 13 per cent said they are very confident that their retirement income will be sufficient to meet their needs.

Matt Ward, wealth management consultant at Defaqto, said: "The pensions gender gap is well known and further underlined by our findings."

A recent poll by the National Association of Pension Funds found that only 34 per cent of people are confident that they have saved enough in their pension pot.

It also found that 27 per cent of people would save more if there was a guarantee they could not lose any money they had paid in.
