Healthy diet and regular exercise can avoid pet insurance claims

Animal owners should make sure they feed their feline friend or canine companion a healthy diet and give them regular exercise to avoid claims on pet insurance, an expert has commented.
Ian Moffat, Petplan's head of operations, said that keeping to a healthy routine will help to prevent pets getting ill.
However, the expert warned that a third of trips to the vets are for unexpected treatments, which those without pet insurance may not be financially prepared for.
"This treatment can run into hundreds of pounds and few people can afford large unforeseen bills, so it is important they safeguard themselves financially with pet insurance so their pet stays in the best of health," he added.
His comments follow research from Sainsbury's Finance, which stated that 56 per cent of vets have had to put down cats or dogs in the last five years. In addition, 88 per cent said that owners have turned down suggested treatments as they could not afford them.
