Make considerations before buying a pet for Christmas

People who will be shopping online for pet insurance after the Christmas period and the purchase of a new pet should make careful considerations before they choose what kind of animal to gift someone this year.

Sarah Linehan, qualified dog behaviourist and trainer at the Pet Experience, said that it is important to choose wisely, as choosing a dog or a cat is to take on a life that needs to be cared for.

She said that choosing something that will slot into people's personal lives is vital.

"People who work full time away from home should not even think about getting a dog, unless they have someone who is able to look after the dog whilst they are at work," Ms Linehan added.

She said that dogs also require a lot of exercise, and those who cannot commit to it should consider a different pet. This follows on from Ms Linehan's recent advice when she told people not to reduce the number of walks their dog gets in winter.
