Men 'have more sympathy for pets'

Men appear to value their pets more than their partners, if new research is to be believed.
A poll by price comparison website Confused.com found that 49 per cent of men would be more sympathetic towards an ill pet than they would their sick partner, while one in ten regularly take time off work to tend to a poorly cat or dog.
Darren Black, head of pet insurance at Confused.com, commented: "The worry that our furry friends cause is strong so pet owners should look to lessen the stress by ensuring they've got pet insurance."
In addition, the poll showed that 20 per cent of men can remember their pets' birthdays but not their partner's, while some said they would rather spend time with their animal companion than their significant other.
Previous research from LV= Pet Insurance found that the average amount of time people take off work to deal with a sick or dead animal is 2.4 days.
