Pet insurance 'a good idea' for cat owners

A new survey has revealed the potential benefits of pet insurance by highlighting that cat owners are the most likely to have their furry friends kidnapped.
According to Sainsbury's Pet Insurance, cat owners are three times more likely than those with dogs to have their pets stolen, contributing to the overall 2.88 million people who lost an animal in the UK last year.
Over quarter of that total believe that their dog or cat was "pet-napped", while 25 per cent of all of the animals who went missing were never seen again.
Lucy Hunter, Sainsbury's Pet Insurance manager, explained that losing a pet can be a "devastating experience".
"It's alarming to see that many people do not follow the simple steps most likely to result in their safe return. The vast majority of those surveyed did not contact the police, place an advert in the local paper, or put up posters in the neighbourhood," she stated.
Earlier this year, findings from Sainsbury's Finance showed that more than half of vets have had to put down pets in the past five years because their owners could not pay for treatments and they did not have pet insurance to cover the care.
