Grooming is an essential part of good dog care and can also help the bonding process between animal and owner, according to Your Dog Magazine.
Sarah Wright, editor of the publication, also revealed to pet insurance customers that as well as keeping a canine's coat clear of dirt, it gives people the chance to check for any lumps, bumps or abnormalities that could get missed.
"Keeping your dog well groomed is also about keeping him healthy," said Ms Wright.
"When people get a puppy, owners should speak to the breeder about their new dog's grooming needs. Get their puppy used to the grooming process early on and get into a routine of grooming regularly."
The Pet Experience recently advised pet insurance policyholders that they must ensure they can give their pooch the time and attention they require.
According to the organisation, it is imperative people walk their dogs twice a day, every day, irrelevant of the weather to make sure they get the right amount of exercise.
