Pet insurance owners should keep pooches safe on Bonfire...

Keeping pets safe and happy on Bonfire Night this year is important, according to one expert.

Sam Guiry, editor of Pet Gazette, told pet insurance customers that the event on November 5th is likely to be one of the most 'disturbing' evenings for cats and dogs in 2011.

Animal owners have been advised to keep their pooches and felines indoors, draw the curtains and perhaps keep the TV or radio on to distract them from what is going on outside.

Ms Guiry said: "I don't think pets should be part of these celebrations and are best kept well away from events they find frightening.

"Owners could also try creating a den before the event, where the animals can retreat to if they feel nervous."

Meanwhile, PetPlan recently advised Brits to take out pet insurance for their furry friends as veterinary treatment costs are increasingly significantly.

The organisation added that having a policy in place can provide owners with peace of mind in case their animal suffers from an illness or has an accident.
