More than half of older pet owners intend to give Christmas presents to their furry friends, a new poll has claimed.
According to a survey by Saga Pet Insurance, 53 per cent of cat and dog owners aged over 50 buy their pets a festive gift, while 28 per cent will treat their animals to a full Christmas stocking.
In addition, 18 per cent of animal lovers will make their pet a traditional Christmas dinner of turkey with all the trimmings and 14 per cent will take the time to cook them a lunch that is tailored to their specific dietary needs.
The research also showed that 24 per cent of over 50s will include their pets' signatures in their Christmas cards, seven per cent will send their animals for a groom before December 25th and six per cent will buy them a festive outfit.
Recently, Sainsbury's Finance pointed out that pet insurance could be more important for pedigree breeds, as they are susceptible to certain hereditary conditions.
