Pets 'need to have specialist chocolate'

People should make sure they are not harming their pets when feeding them Easter treats, it has been suggested.
A poll by Saga Pet Insurance found that people are starting to understand that chocolate can be harmful to cats and dogs, with the proportion of owners feeding their animals treats falling from 18 per cent to 2.5 per cent over the past five years.
The survey also discovered that nine per cent of pet owners have bought a specialist animal chocolate which does not have harmful chemicals to feed to their furry friends.
Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of Saga Group, commented: "It is very important to feed pets with animal-friendly chocolate to avoid causing harmful effects to their health, which could result in costly vet bills, a worry no pet owner would like to have."
The organisation also pointed out that many other foods consumed by humans, such as grapes and onions, can lead to a range of health problems in pets.
Earlier this week, M&S Pet Insurance highlighted the health risks of feeding chocolate Easter eggs to dogs.
