A bunch of Christmas tree tinsel nearly killed a family dog when it ate a foot of the decoration and had to be rushed to hospital.
Lola found the festive accessory in a box in her owners house and ate the tinsel, causing it to become coiled in her intestine. This Is Gloucester reported that the two-year-old had to undergo an operation remove the decoration by veterinary surgeons in Stow-on-the-Wold.
Fortunately, owner Emma Wilcox had taken out insurance as the operation bill came to £4,000. It comes after a recent study showed that many pets in the UK have no cover, with Gocompare.com revealing that 56 per cent of owners have not taken out insurance for their animal.
Ms Wilcox told the source: "Lola's very lucky to be here. People must keep Christmas decorations out of reach of dogs or other pets. If I'd left her that night she might not be alive, as the vets told me they didn't know if she would pull through surgery."
