Some 37 per cent of Brits have taken part in adventurous sports and activities when on holiday, according to new research.
The study by moneysupermarket.com has also found one in eight people who take part in extreme sports while abroad do not purchase travel insurance.
Head of research Peter Gerrard said: "With the thrill of jumping out of a plane or negotiating white-water rapids, some holidaymakers do not give a second thought to checking they are adequately covered."
He added people should not be concerned about the cost of travel insurance increasing too much if they want to take part in adventurous activities on holiday.
He said that if holidaymakers compare insurance deals they will find some policies cover activities such as bungee jumping and white-water rafting for less than £15.
Elsewhere, former Wimbledon champion Annabel Croft has suggested families who are looking at tightening their purse strings over the summer holidays can keep kids entertained by getting them involved in sports and games.
