Travellers are looking for the "ultimate escapism" and are finding it in the shape of visiting the Arctic and Antarctica, according to an expert.
Travel insurance purchases for these destinations could be on the rise as they are becoming increasingly popular with people who are seeking a change from a beach holiday.
"Even in my lifetime, Antarctica has gone from being the place I dream of reaching but know I'll never get to, to somewhere I dream of going, and who knows, one day it might just happen," said Rosie Fuller, editor of Adventure Travel magazine.
She added that the recent Frozen Planet television series, which has shown the changing face of the polar region throughout the seasons, could have captured people's imagination, while destinations like the Arctic are also becoming easier to reach.
"The draw of Antarctica is endless – endless space, isolation, staggering wilderness and beauty," Ms Fuller stated.
