BA passengers 'should check travel insurance'

Holidaymakers whose plans have been disrupted by the proposed British Airways (BA) cabin crew strikes should check their travel insurance policies, it has been recommended.

Price comparison service Gocompare pointed out that many policies include delayed departure or abandonment cover, which could provide them with some compensation for having to cancel their holiday.

"Travel insurance policies taken out after March12th, the day when the actual strike dates were announced, will not cover you against any delays or subsequent abandonment caused by the strikes," the group added.

The organisation explained that booking a break after the proposed strike dates were named invalidates the delayed departure or abandonment clauses, as the traveller could have foreseen that their plans would be affected.

Earlier this month, travelsupermarket.com advised holidaymakers to keep themselves informed on the developments in the BA industry dispute and liaise with their travel insurance provider about any possible compensation.
