British holidaymakers flying out of Gatwick airport on Monday should make sure they have adequate travel insurance, according to Asda Financial Services.

The group claims passengers face the possibility of long delays and chaos as check-in staff and baggage handlers threaten to hold two 24-hour strikes, including one on bank holiday Monday.

And it states travel insurance is vital to cover them in the event of delayed or cancelled flights.

A follow up strike to the one being held on Monday is planned for August 29th.

Gideon Ingham from Asda Financial Services said: "Taking out adequate travel insurance shouldn't be seen as an optional extra but … an essential must-have."

He added delays are bad enough without ending up out of pocket as well.

Meanwhile, the Association of Independent Tour Operators claims it is worth paying a little bit extra to get the peace of mind that comes with using a reputable tour operator.
