Campers 'need to check they are fully covered'

Campers who are preparing to brave the bank holiday weather in Britain need to ensure their possessions are covered by either their home insurance or by travel insurance, according to the Fair Investment Company.

Spokesperson Rachel Stiles warned people not to assume the items they take with them will necessarily be covered under their contents insurance.

She said: "We are urging those who are intending to get away this weekend to check their insurance, particularly if they are taking expensive items like iPods and laptops with them."

Ms Stiles added campers could choose between away from home cover or travel insurance which should both provide protection for items lost or damaged while camping.

However, she warned items which are stolen after being left unattended in a tent are unlikely to be covered.

Meanwhile, although some people may be going camping to cut costs, the Post Office claims the credit crunch has not significantly affected the number of people taking foreign holidays.
