Cutting travel insurance 'not recommended'

Holidaymakers in the UK are considering cutting their travel insurance in order to save money, new research has suggested.
A poll by American Express Insurance Services suggests up to 14.5 million Brits plan to cut their travel cover, which could leave them at risk of paying large repatriation and medical fees if anything should go wrong on their holidays.
Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services, said "As the cost of living rises and there is less money left over at the end of each month, our research shows that one in four Brits are struggling to meet the cost of holiday insurance."
However, he suggested that if people have to avoid travel insurance to afford their holidays they should consider postponing the entire trip.
Mr Rolland also recommended people consider taking out an annual travel insurance policy if they are planning more than one break in a year, which will give them further savings.
Earlier this week, comparethemarket.com advised people to check that their travel insurance covers events such as the collapse of a tour operator, following on from the folding of XL Leisure.
