Disabled people urged to make sure travel insurance covers essentials

Disabled travellers need to check travel insurance particularly carefully, according to Tourism for All.
The company has outlined a number of things disabled travellers should ensure they have prepared for before embarking on their trip.
Brian Seaman, head of consultancy at the charity, said that those taking medication should check they have enough for any unforeseen events, such as delays or strikes.
Mr Seaman also highlighted the importance of comprehensive travel insurance for safeguarding critical items such as wheelchairs and other equipment.
He explained: "You need to find out if they are insured or not under the standard policy or if you need to take an extension to cover those items."
From July 2008 a new European regulation means it will be the responsibility of airports to meet disabled customers' needs, from arrival, through check-in, to getting on the plane.
According to a survey by Leonard Cheshire Disability in December 2007, more than a third of disabled people have experienced negative attitudes from staff at airports and onboard flights.
