Holidaymakers 'maintaining quality'

People are looking for quality over quantity when booking their holidays, it has been suggested.

A spokeswoman for Thomson and First Choice said that travel insurance customers have not been willing to cut down on the quality of their vacations and are instead reducing their length or frequency of their breaks.

The representative explained: "Those who are used to four star breaks are not prepared to trade down to three star. However they will do anything they can to cut costs, such as taking ten-day rather than two-week, holidays."

In addition, she claimed that tour operators are attempting to capitalise on this by offering package holidays which have a wider choice of departure dates and destinations.

Earlier this year, research from Thomson and First Choice found that 80 per cent of people intend to take a holiday next year, while a similar proportion said that the recession will not alter their plans.

The poll also discovered that around half of people intend to spend the same amount on their vacation as they did last yea and 24 per cent plan to spend more.
