Holidaymakers 'should not neglect travel insurance'

People heading on a winter break should ensure that they take out adequate travel insurance, it has been suggested.
Research from Sainsbury's Travel Insurance discovered that 37 per cent of holidaymakers, or around 11.3 million people, went abroad during the summer without purchasing any cover.
The survey also found that 18 per cent of holidaymakers did not take out travel insurance because they felt they would not need it, while 17 per cent said they could not afford it.
Sam Marrs, manager of Sainsbury's Travel Insurance, said: "Buying travel insurance should be considered a holiday essential. It is very worrying that many people feel that they do not need travel insurance."
He also claimed that the case for travel insurance is stronger in winter, as many people will be involved in high risk activities such as skiing and snowboarding.
Recently, Carl Christopher, spokesperson for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, said that taking out travel insurance is an essential safety consideration for those going on ski holidays.
