Holidaymakers urged to check their travel insurance before the flight

It is important that holidaymakers check their travel insurance before they board their flight for their trip overseas.

Abigail Comber, head of marketing at British Airways, said that policies change all the time, and therefore it was vital that passengers know what they are covered for before they leave home.

"It is really important to take travel insurance, especially for any situation that might occur where something gets stolen or a medical emergency. Always make sure you take it and thoroughly read the policy before you go," Ms Comber went on to say.

The need for travel insurance has become even more important with holidaymakers' increased desire to take gadgets abroad with them.

Sat nav systems, MP3 players, laptops and tablet computers are all popular holiday toys, while the rise of the smartphone and the need to be connected through social networks has meant that these items are also an ideal travel companion.
