Money awareness 'vital for World Cup break'

Football lovers considering a trip to South Africa should England make it to the final stages of the World Cup should be careful with their holiday money, it has been suggested.

A new poll by M&S Travel Money found that 89 per cent of people believe getting good value for money on foreign currency is "vitally important", but two-thirds erroneously think high street providers charge the same rate in their different branches.

In addition, 37 per cent of people are planning on taking more than £450 with them on a World Cup trip, even though there is a 5,000 South African rand (around £450) limit on money which can be taken in and out of the country.

James Yerkess, manager of M&S Travel Money, commented: "Value for money is a topic travelling England supporters need to put serious thought towards, especially given a quarter of people aren't even clear that the South African rand is the official currency they'd need for their trip."

Earlier this month, Bob Atkinson, travel expert at moneysupermarket.com, stressed the importance of taking out travel insurance when going to watch the World Cup in South Africa.
