Older holidaymakers 'face travel insurance hike'

Brits face escalating costs for travel insurance as they age, new research from moneysupermarket.com has shown.
A new report by the price comparison website revealed that 66-year-olds have to pay 109 per cent more than those aged 65 for travel insurance when taking a holiday in Europe.
In addition, they face a further hike of 24 per cent in the cost of their premiums when they turn 70.
The research also found that an annual worldwide policy increases in price when people reach 66 and 70, jumping by 102 per cent and 12 per cent respectively.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert at moneysupermarket.com, said it could be a "shock" for people to find their travel insurance premiums can rise so fast without any medical evidence claiming they are a higher risk.
"For older travellers, who may have paid off their mortgage and have cash in the bank to rely on for their travels, it is a kick in the teeth to face such a stark price hike," he commented.
Earlier this week, the Identity and Passport Service warned holidaymakers of all ages to ensure they store their passport in a safe location both at home and when abroad.
