Skiers 'risking health when drunk on slopes'

British skiers are risking their safety by hitting the slopes while under the influence of alcohol, it has been claimed.
Research carried out by More Than Travel Insurance found that one-quarter of Brits could decide to go skiing when they are still drunk from the night before.
The study suggested that the 568,000 people who head on skiing holidays in the coming year will still have seven units of alcohol in their systems on at least one occasion when they head to the mountains in a morning.
Pete Markey, a spokesman for More Than, commented: "Brits abroad have a reputation for drinking to excess but throw a high-speed downhill sport into the mix and you have a very nasty combination."
The research also found that 31 per cent of people erroneously believe that their travel insurance will remain valid if they cause an accident on the slopes while under the influence of alcohol.
Last month, the AA reminded winter sports enthusiasts not to cut back on travel insurance when planning a trip to the slopes.
