Winter sports enthusiasts who are planning to hit the slopes this ski season should ensure they have adequate travel insurance, according to experts.
New figures from esure claimed that almost 2.8 million people plan to go skiing this winter, which is a 50 per cent increase on the number reported last year.
However, a survey by the group found 14 per cent of skiers and snowboarders will neglect to take out travel insurance for their trip, with three per cent wrongly believing that their European Health Insurance Card will provide them with all the cover they need.
The organisation also revealed that 14 per cent of winter sports enthusiasts have been injured on a previous skiing holiday and said the cost of an accident can range from £200 to £8,000.
Mike Pickard, head of travel Insurance at esure, said: "It doesn't matter whether you're a novice or perfectly at home on the black runs, accidents do happen on the slopes and it's crucial to make sure you're fully covered with quality insurance that includes specific winter sports cover."
A recent post on MoneyNing said that skiers and snowboarders can save money on their holiday by buying their equipment ahead of the season's start.
