Travel insurance 'important for ski break safety'

Taking out travel insurance is one of the essential precautions which people need to take before going on a skiing holiday, it has been claimed.

Carl Christopher, spokesperson for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, said advance planning is important for people to ensure that their trip to the slopes is as safe as possible.

"It is also important to check your insurance cover and make sure you know what rescue services are available," he explained.

Mr Christopher also recommended that people practice their skiing skills before heading off on their break and said they should avoid pushing themselves too much.

In addition, the representative advised people to use appropriate safety equipment such as helmets and pointed out the importance of staying warm when on the slopes.

Last week, research from esure found that 14 per cent of skiers and snowboarders will neglect to take out travel insurance for their trip, despite the fact that seven per cent have been injured on a previous winter sports holiday.
