Travel insurance 'important' on sports trips

Taking out travel insurance is a necessary step for those people that are considering going on a sports holiday, an expert has advised.

Director of travel operator Sportstours.co.uk Steven Dacosta said that taking out travel insurance is a vital step for those looking for an active holiday.

He added that for the more adventurous out there, investigating the possibility of taking out a tailor-made policy may be worthwhile.

"Make sure that you travel with holiday insurance which covers you for the playing and practising of sport," Mr Dacosta said.

He added that such a move could mean individuals were covered for any accident they may have while away and may also cover specialist equipment.

Figures released by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in January of this year suggested that due to an increase in the number of people taking winter sports holidays, more people are taking part in high-risk activities without the correct preparation and are therefore putting themselves at risk.
