Travel insurance 'may not cover all the family'

More than one quarter of family travel insurance products fail to cover children who reside with an ex, experts have warned.
A new report by independent financial research company Defaqto found that 28 per cent of such policies do not cover children who live outside of the family home.
Brian Brown, head of research at Defaqto, explained that many travel insurance companies will cover children and step-children who reside with the main policyholder.
However, he added: "But if you take children on holiday with you and they normally live with an ex-partner they might not be covered. Insurers only consider them as family if they permanently live at your address."
Mr Brown also recommended that families closely read the small print of their travel insurance ahead of their holiday to ensure they have all the cover they require.
Last month, price comparison website moneysupermarket.com warned that travel insurance can be more expensive if bought direct from airlines, tour operators or travel agents.
