Travel insurance 'should cover all possessions being taken'

Those intending to head abroad must ensure they have adequate travel insurance to cover the possessions they take with them overseas, an expert advises.

Rachel Croft, head of Post Office travel insurance, claims that the average holidaymaker takes an approximate £1,113 worth of goods with them when they head off on a break.

She states that women tend to take goods that are more expensive in their luggage, suggesting that females should take steps to ensure their valuables are covered by their travel insurance.

"It's important to ensure that you have adequate travel insurance so that you can rest easy knowing that you're covered," she says.

Ms Croft advises holidaymakers to check their travel insurance policy to determine the maximum value of a single item that will be reimbursed.

In other news, travel insurance customers have been advised by moneysupermarket.com to ensure their policy covers extreme sports if they want to try out 'daredevil activities' on their breaks.
