Travel insurance 'vital for February skiing'

People thinking of taking to the slopes for a February skiing break should ensure they are covered by travel insurance, it has been claimed.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert at moneysupermarket.com, suggested that many families are thinking of taking a break over the upcoming half-term holiday, but pointed out the importance of protecting against unforeseen circumstances.
"A family holiday can be costly, especially when it involves winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, but foregoing travel cover is simply not an option and scouring the small print really is a must," he added.
Mr Atkinson explained that travel insurance for skiing holidays needs additional features to standards such as baggage cover, medical expenses or cancellation protection and advised people to look for cover for ski passes, sports equipment or going off-piste.
Recent research by Sainsbury's Travel Insurance claimed that 1.14 million early bookers do not intend to take out any cover for breaks this year, despite the risk that cancellations or falling ill in the coming months could prevent them from taking their trip.
