Travellers 'can take steps' to protect their luggage

While travellers are not in control of their luggage once they have checked it in at an airport, there are a number of steps individuals can take to protect their belongings, an expert has said.
Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, said that there were a number of steps individuals could take to quicken the compensation process if their luggage was lost.
"The thing to do to make it easier and quicker for you to claim compensation is to make a note of what's in the bag when you pack it and, wherever possible, keep receipts," said Mr Tarling.
He added that it was also wise to consider the need for taking valuable items abroad and that it is important to label property.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association last year warned that a number of travel insurance policies do not cover items that are checked in to the hold of an aeroplane.
