Travellers urged to be honest with insurers about existing...

When shopping around for travel insurance, the older generation needs to be honest about any pre-existing health conditions, according to Saga.

Paul Green from Saga said that while over-65s travel insurance "is not hard to find if you look in the right place", travellers should consider whether a policy covers them for any health conditions they have rather than simply picking the cheapest deal.

He commented that insurers may increase their upper age limits in time, as the population "remains healthier for longer".

Mr Green pointed out: "Insurers now have a better understanding and improved systems. They are more sophisticated on how they rate older ages and include cover for pre-existing conditions.”

According to research by Age Concern, 92 per cent of travel insurance policies impose upper age limits, refusing to provide cover for older people.

Saga focuses exclusively on providing services for people over 50-years-old, including holidays, a magazine and financial services.
