UK holidaymakers 'risking electronic kit'

Brits will take more than £1.6 billion worth of electronic equipment with them on holiday this summer without protecting it with insurance, it has been suggested.
Research by AXA Home Insurance found that the average British holidaymaker takes £424 worth of gear, such as phones, laptops and cameras, with them on their vacation, amounting to a total of £7 billion.
The poll also revealed that Brits are more likely to take a mobile or smartphone than a watch or jewellery on holiday, as almost 90 per cent pack a phone while only 58 per cent and 48 per cent take the other respective items.
However, the study showed that just 77 per cent will have taken out travel insurance, leading to kit worth up to £1.61 billion being unprotected against theft, loss or damage.
AXA Home Insurance's Amanda Edwards commented: "These items are also very attractive to thieves and if you go anywhere without adequate insurance, or fail to look after your property carefully outside the home, you could find yourself footing a fairly hefty bill to replace it."
Earlier this month, Get Safe Online and UK travel association ABTA warned holidaymakers about bogus travel scams such as fraudulent websites and holiday rental cons.
